Romans
15:5-7. |
| 5"Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, 6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God." |
| It has been said that most
teaching on family life is simply and application of what it means to live as a Christian.
These verses in Romans are directed to the Christian community at large, yet they are a
frequently used wedding text, for they present a beautiful and fitting description of
Christian marriage. The key word is "receive" (Greek proslambano), which means "to take to oneself." Its root indicates strong action toward us - that in Christ, God literally came to us and took hold of us "while we were still sinners" (5:8). By that act of acceptance He released the grace of God and set in motion the powers of redemption. When that power is allowed to work in a family, it will transform the lives of two imperfect people into one life, lived to the praise of God's glory. Therefore, the Lords sets this word like a banner over marriage from thefirst day until the last, "Receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God." |
