2:9-11 |
| 9 "Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father." |
Scholars note that the word "confess" means "to acknowledge openly and joyfully, to celebrate and give praise" (Thayer / Wycliffe). This beautifully stated text is a great point of acknowledgement for all who would learn the power of faith's confession. The exalting and honouring of our Lord Jesus Christ is our fountainhead of power in applying faith. The Father honours Him first, then those who confess His Son as well (John 12:26). All humans, angels, and demon spirits will ultimately bow the knee to Jesus, rendering complete and final homage. That confession of every tongue will one day be heard by every ear as He receives ultimate and complete rule. But until that day, our confession of Jesus Christ invites and receives His presence and power over all evil whenever we face it. And as we declare His lordship - in faith - His rule enters those circumstances today. |
